Hello Luthier

Happy VE day, anyone who has taken the time to study history in any detail will know the sacrifice of the Soviet Union during WWII was the greatest of any, and to the heroic people of that country, (not to Stalin who hindered his own soldiers) we owe a huge debt of gratitude for accomplishing the main role in the defeat of Nazism.

Thanks for your hard work on CLIFFS OF DOVER, we know the Sim will eventually be everything we hoped for.

I have to say though, that I am disappointed at the decision to make another Eastern Front Sim.

Oleg at one time said we would see the Mediterranean as the next theater for the STORM OF WAR series, and the Med is one of the locations which was never simulated in either IL-2 or ANY other sim. (except through some modded maps) I think it would be preferable to see something new.

The other area which has not been covered by IL-2 is the Battle of Germany, the 8th Air Force and RAF Strategic bombing campaigns during the day and at night. These have been done by other sims, but not successfully online.

Happy V-E Day to you and all the 1C team.
The prospect of flying the iL2 and the later series of i-16 in the new format is something to look foreward to.
Keep up the good work on getting COD sorted and please take no notice of the whindgers ,I expect when they were little their Moms spoilt them just to stop them grizzeling all the time

What we do here will never do them justice, and thankfully most people playing our flight sims will never know what it’s like to fight a real war. If it just makes you think about everyone who has fought and lived or died through that war, to realize that they weren’t superhuman heroes, they were ordinary people just like the people you know today, good and bad, smart and stupid, brave and not so much, that perhaps will make you appreciate their sacrifice even more.
agree to that one, good post !

Talk of add-ons by the dev team is encouraging to me. It tells me they believe they can keep working on the series. They didn't lay off their artists, they didn't send them on extended leave, they have them working (and getting paid) on the next expansion while coders work on optimizing the current version. This shows me that they are out of the woods financially and we can all probably rest easy they'll keep supporting the new series.

As for the selection of theaters, i wouldn't mind some med/N.Africa action but i have no problem with eastern front too. How many times have we seen a repetition of the ETO and how many times have we seen the MTO and eastern front? The med and Barbarossa are original and not done to death, so bring it on.

Don't get me wrong, i can't wait to some day fly 190s against B-17s or mosquitoes on night intruder missions over western Europe. It's just that some originality is also good and it constitutes another selling point.

Another thing that has been mentioned by others is that the med and the eastern front also share a lot of common aircraft types with what we already have in CoD or slight modifications of existing ones... the Hurris are very similar for example: add two more guns, adjust weight and engine data and you have an Mk.IIb, or add bomb racks too and replace the .303s with Hispanos and you got an Mk.IIc.

In a similar fashion, 109Es, 110s and He111s are perfect for a barbarossa scenario too.

This gives the dev team more time to focus on rounding out the rest of the appropriate planeset by adding in a P-40 and more Italian fighters for the med or the VVS fighters in case of an eastern front expansion.
