I generally fly the Spitfire for dogfights, and the Hurricane on Capture Airfields. This works well for me but is subject to change once I unlock more.

Personally, I just love the Hurricane Mk. II. Maybe it can't compete with some of the other aircraft... But it sure is fun to fly! And I appreciate 12 machine guns too (don't remember the size of them, but definitely better than a BF-109 machine gun). I've rarely had this plane go into a spin while doing tight maneuvers.

What gives, I'm deep into the last of the main and single missions and still no Yak-3 unlocked?

It's in there somewhere. I'm pretty sure I unlocked it prior to Berlin, possibly just before it, in the campaign. I don't know what triggered it.

Did you do the first mission on The Battle for Berlin, in Campaign? That should unlock it no matter what. Since it is, the only mission with the Yak-3 I believe?
