The average Alienware system before they were aquired by Dell were just typical high-end off the shelf components stuck into an ugly case. Now that dell owns them. . . oh yah, nothing different.

Get a coolermaster case, and stuff it with the most expensive parts you can find, and you'll get a better system for much less. You're just paying people to put it together for you and claiming it's something special.

I bought an Alienware in late 2003 for Il2 so I will say this.
Alienware doesn't make their own hardware so that being said the Alienware hardware is "off the shelf" stuff.
Stuff that you can buy yourself.
Perhaps there is the finetuning aspect of Alienware but even then the performance increase is marginal.
Sure, I had bragging rights for a little while but looking back it was not worth what I paid for it.
What did I pay for exactly? The name? Two extra FPS? Who knows but I do know I won't do it again.
I do keep the Alienware Case as a souvenir and conversation piece.
I could have saved a lot of money by building something myself that was just as good, or darned close.
That;s exactly what I did for my last build in 2007. It's time for yet another sometime soon.
Oh, by the way, my Alienware was a P4 3.2EE with a GeForce5950!
That was "da shiznit" back then LOL

Is this a joke? Alienware does not make components - they just assemble them with an expensive case. My pc was about $4000 in total including shipping and other expenses, the equivalen on alienware at the time was not only worse (its ram was 1333mhz not 1600mhz, and only 8gb among other things) but it cost around $6500+. They tried to charge about $250 for 970->980 upgrade that actually only costs $100...
