Hi all. I've never played the IL2 series. I am more familiar with the old school Microsoft Combat flight sim. However, I just downloaded the demo for IL2 on the PSN and I agree with many on this forum that this might be the game I have been waiting for.
I have beaten the first mission and satisfied all primary and secondary objectives on simulator with the hud turned off. I do like to play as realistically as I can. My question with multiplayer is how the hell will we be able to spot, let alone define which side a plane is on? I have an HD tv and it wasnt hard on the Cliffs of Dover mission to spot planes, but the second mission in the Ardennes is giving me hell, which I imagine is what multiplayer will be like (mostly fighter aircraft in the air.) Finding the planes wasn't impossible, but tracking them for me was. Using the R3 button to look around is proving really difficult for me. I spot a plane but as soon as it zooms into a cloud bank or blends in with the ground, I can't find it again. I know in arcade this isn't an issue, but shouldn't there be some indicator in multiplayer sim mode to help us track planes? Before I get chewed out for not being hardcore, keep this in mind: If you were actually in a fighter, you would be able to crane your neck to look around much faster, and much more coordinated with flight controls. I am willing to bet using a joystick pressed firmly down to track your foes is a bit harder... |

I struggle quite a bit with the Ardennes map, as well. I spot planes, then lose them... time and time again. Not sure what the best solution will be, but I'm guessing MP voice chat will help because you have players on your squad looking around to help.

I found it hard at first aswell, im pretty close to my tv now.
But i slowly adapted my eyes and can spot enemy planes pretty fast and see if its a P-51 or not. |

Aye, to Sleeptrgt, I've done what he has done except it involves junkers and HE-111 in Dover. But theres that problem, there will be 40 or 50 or more planes in multiplayer, you'll have to know what each plane silliouhette looks like and know what planes are on your team, and hope the enemies don't have similar planes!
That just popped in my head, I know that in the Team games the teams are split up between Axis and Allies, I hope they don't let you bring a Mustang over to the Axis team! |

Makes me wonder also how this is supposed to work in Multiplayer. Will i be able to pick which ever plane i want to fly, or do i have to choose the plane types available for each side? |

Well from what I can tell from what I've read, you get to customise your plane and how it looks and what guns it uses, but it doesn't say if you choose one plane before playing or you do all that before the match starts.

Mind you, I've occasionally found myself on the six of a friendly, in single player! If you fly with me, best keep me in front... actually... then I might think you're hostile! ![]() I can deal with whatever for now. As long as the cockpits turn up eventually, online Sim will be safe. Last edited by PF_Lizard; 08-26-2009 at 12:39 PM. |
