Sim for me in campaign and MP.
The only thing that worries me a bit is that I just cannot follow one of those 190 D9 without going into a flat spin... they are so fast.

anyway, I don't even feel like I can make a sharp turn with the P51...
How do you guys do?

I practice daily with the demo on sim mode, and that is the only way i will play this when it hits the shelfs.

I'll be playing Sim, however depending on how detailed the briefing's are, I might have to give in and play a few mission on Realistic first. It took me so long to find the targets on Tiger Hunt! lol Once I found them, I marked out landmarks in my head and could repeat attack runs no probs.

But you don't get any bearings to follow do you?

It's tough because although the post processing effects make the game look gorgeous, they make viability difficult!

I got the same problems on tiger Hunt, spotting the enemy is so difficult, and you only have a few seconds to react and place your shots.
I try also to remember the terrain and started attacking from about 1000 ft.
I made the mistake the whole time engaging just over tree level.
That does not work very well on that mission.
Fly up, the FW don´t do much harm anyway and engage from 1000 ft and above. Works much better.

I think I'll probably be going with Realistic, it seems like a good balance for me.

Arcade is much too easy, but it can be really hard to identify your targets with Simulator (especially those ground targets).

After playing through the demo levels a couple of times on realistic I was able to play well enough on Simulator, so maybe I can go back for a second Simulator playthrough, especially if there were some achievements involved.

I remember reading people saying that this game wouldn't be able to touch the original IL-2 because it is on a "Console", and couldn't be made "sim" enough.

Sim mode is freaking hard trying to hit these targets, and seeing people post the same makes me smile.

Good work Gaijin!

I like "Realistic" as it has a very good balance. Not too easy as you can still stall/spin etc.. but still allowing some hand holding as far as identifying your target. I have been playing Sim also.

One extra step with Realistic is to disable the HUD as this makes finding the targets MUCH harder. You no longer get the red and yellow arrows or even the red names of the planes. It does however allow you to padlock on to your enemies. In this way at least you can tell friend from foe. It also forces you to use the free look like you would in full sim as the padlock is often restrictive. I will definitley be setting a few MP rooms up this way.
