Well, I can confirm that you can crash without exploding.

In Sim Mode, in Tiger Hunt, while I was looking for the Tigers but desperate to find them, I decided to land in a small river, to smoke a cigarette and eat my sandwiches before going back to my Tiger hunt. Well, I finished in the trees undamaged but landed

I decided to take off, quiet difficult with a tree in front of me. The game finally decided that I was crashed and i had a Zoom out, the occasion to admire my shining Mustang from above which looks like a grey cross at the end of the zoom out

Well I first landed. but I was blocked in the trees. (damned planes there is no reverse function)

When I attempted to take off using the WEP during, let say 3-5 sec, without really moving, It says that I was just "crashed".

But the plane didn't blew up and I didn't have the mention "crash landed" as others had.

EDIT: So yes I didn't crash
