I have god awful items in regalia atm, even the bad kids are better than the items I'm putting in there. ie +100 leadership.

Anyways, I'll prob dump her for the demoness wife, and fill her up with good artifacts when I actually have good artifacts.

Do kids get born in this order?

So I can save the artifact slot (no. 4)? or do they fill out slots randomly ?

I think it's random. In most my playthroughs most of the time the 1st child I get occupies my 4th slot first.

I wouldn't mind random babies, if only none of them were crap, and if they were generally improved, so that with a baby you get a very good bonus, much better than the average artifact, since you're stuck with a baby.

That's right, with crap babies removed that would be more cool even if random make sometimes a result less good than items. Myself I consider them as plus try during the game until undead area and with a wife I don't want keep.
