No i have a E6600 core duo.
Recently been on the Digital Mind Soft forums, alot of posts there referring to Anti virus causing the problem.
I'm using Mcafee's but i'm struggling to turn off the real time scanning.
Hope this helps.

If your graphics card is one of the following:
ATI Radeon 9600 ,
ATI Radeon 9700 ,
ATI Radeon X300 ,
ATI Radeon X600 ,
ATI Radeon X700 ,
ATI Radeon X800 ,
ATI Radeon X850 ,
ATI Radeon X1050 ,
ATI Radeon X1300 ,
ATI Radeon X1600 ,
ATI Radeon X1900 ,
ATI RADEON HD 2400 ,
ATI RADEON HD 2600 ,
ATI RADEON HD 2900 ,
ATI RADEON HD 3450 ,
ATI RADEON HD 3850 ,
ATI RADEON HD 3870 ,
ATI RADEON HD 4850 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 5900 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 6600 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 6800 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7300 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7800 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8400 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE 260 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE GO 7900 ,
NVIDIA GEFORCE GO 7950 and
NVIDIA GEFORCE GO 8400 ,

then you MUST turn off bloom in your video settings, or it will freeze your game.

I have a quad core, thought using only one core would work but it still locks up, also I have an 8800 card, I turned my bloom off and it still locks up.

I had the same problem, and after much internet trawling and scratching of my head, I fixed it. I remembered how I got Mass Effect to run on my PC, and it was by disabling my DVD software. I use power DVD, but it interfered with the game. So i ctrl+alt+del it and closed Pdvd down manually (Also closed down the itunes and ipod programs too, so might have been them instead, although i doubt it). Now there's no more menu/inventory lag and the game is 100x better for it!

Hope this works for everyone else too!
