i hope there is some real news about a KB sequel sometime soon too but a new HOMM/KB type game was just announced at E3:

That's a 4X game, not a new KB alike iteration. They are different genres. With some similarities, but different nonetheless.

Yes someone pointed it out to me earlier today. Quite shocking how little notification given the strong demand for the game. It looks really really interesting from the screenshots on steam (there is a steam entry):
