MAPMAKING FOR BONFIRE ????
Anyway, if someone is up for making maps for Bonfire 2, then let me know, it could just be 1-2 maps. But I warn u, the editor is like an old lady, but mapmaking is a lot easier than coding and modding, which I leave to Terroin to avoid too much headache. If so, I'll start a new topic here in the KB forum about mapmaking regarding Bonfire 2. You won't be placing creatures or treasures, we have coded some randomness in the editor which is best we do ourselves. So it is just landscaping including relevant caves/dungeons. We will do the more tough stuff like activating portals to and from dungeons or portals from one end of the map to the other, we just have to know where which one shall lead to. |

I've decided Bonfire 2 should be without new maps, instead I start making maps and quests for a completely new Crossworld mod:
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=230150 So mostly new modding for Bonfire 2 is done by Terroin. It is very fun to playtest it... |

I use Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) and have Steam installed on my E-drive. I have WotN and the Ice and Fire add-on. I renamed the original WotN folder to ORIGINAL and unzipped the 2.8 GB file I downloaded without any errors. When I started Bonfire (KBWotN.exe) from E:\Steam\SteamApps\common\King's Bounty - Warriors of the North the screen turned black for a few seconds and after a while the error in the attached screenshot appeared. I tried starting the game from the Steam thingie in the system tray and I saw the count down to the 1C logo, after which the game crashed with the same error. As a last option I started the game in DEV-mode but nothing changed in the error message. I also checked the event viewer logs and found this error: Faulting application name: KBWotN.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x52d7fa90 Faulting module name: KBWotN.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x52d7fa90 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x002205ba Faulting process id: 0x2ab0 Faulting application start time: 0x01d3e9e50b2eea47 Faulting application path: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\King's Bounty - Warriors of the North\KBWotN.exe Faulting module path: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\King's Bounty - Warriors of the North\KBWotN.exe Report Id: 3f2aaf6b-75e2-45ff-a0e7-6784a70d990c Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: When I renamed the folders again, I could play WotN and Ice and Fire without any problems. Any ideas? If you need more info, just let me know. |

I'll hand it over to Terroin. Annoying if Windows 10 means it cannot be played... hm...

Could you try to run the game, the EXE file in compatible mode?
see link for info - I think this would work! https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/s...ode-windows-10 |

I tried Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP SP3 and even Windows Vista SP2... all attempts crashed
I first set the compatibility level manually and afterwards let Windows determine it with the troubleshooter but there was no difference there. The error message changed a bit though, see screendump. I tried running the executable without any compatibility settings, just to see if I would get the previous error message but the error came back as in the latest screenshot. I guess that must have something to do with the big Windows update that was installed recently. |

Quick update: I have it working, sort of.
This is what I did: I copied the original game folder to KBWotN ORIGINAL and renamed the unzipped Bonfire folder to KBWotN BONFIRE. That left me with three folders: KBWotN, ORIGINAL and BONFIRE. I then compared KBWotN and BONFIRE and copied all different/missing files from BONFIRE to KBWotN, one folder at a time, and tried to run the game after each copy. I have now copied all files except for sessions\addon\loc_ses.kfs and sessions\addon\ses.kfs and I can start the Bonfire campaign, create a new game and pick a hero, walk around, pick up the rune and leadership flag and talk to the characters in the game. I even had the wizard make a rage fountain and the game keeper sold me a unicorn I have to go to work now but I hope to experiment later today when I get back. |

It works!
I added the last two files (loc_ses.kfs and ses.kfs) and the game worked when I started it. I guess it's some increased security in Windows 10 that blocked the unzipped game from working, but if you only unzip the data, sessions and sourcemedia folders as well as binkw32.dll, Bonfire Sets Guide.docx, GameuxInstallHelper.dll, Patch info.txt, steam_appid.txt and Trooptalk.txt from the downloaded Bonfire zipfile and copy those over the existing files, it works like a charm I'm off to explore an entirely new perspective on Olaf Last edited by CarryNL; 05-19-2018 at 10:00 AM. |
