Now the current community is divided into different game, but I think having just one big Il2 Sturmovik game with recent engine could change a lot of things. More players, more free and paid contents.
There seems to be a flightsim resurgence going on judging by sales and introduction of new flight joysticks and rudder pedals perhaps driven by online multiplayer. But to repack and restore all il-2 games to BOS/BOM game engine would be huge job and not consistent quality when done!

IMHO...... il2 needs a whole new game with targeted theatre. BOS/BOM is right idea but east front WW2 is not big seller in US/English nations. Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 is a great example of a well researched flight sim. It covers pacific 1942-> 1943 really well. A reboot of il2=MScfs2 would have less map work than the single 3D Moscow city that BOM added!

I think that is why they are going to do a three game Pacific series after BoS/BoM/BoKuban - announced was Battle of Midway and Battle of Okinawa plus unknow third scenario. And I think the target audience besides us is sim gamers in the Western, especially US market. And it is clear to me that if they do not totally botch it up, it will be far superior in carrier battles than IL2 ever has been. And while there is not much work for cities on Midway/Okinawa, ships will require some work, and I hope we don't get a generic Japanese and a generic Allied carrier, but real ones, and some different CA/CL/DD/DE, along with a few supply and cargo vessels, and and and....

I hope the unannounced third scenario is Solomons Islands Guadacanal<->Rabaul. It is the most fanatastic area for a pacific flight sim. It has air battles from 4/42 to 2/44 and extensive sea battles and transport activity also.

I will second that wish for a Solomons Campaign in the new IL2 engine. That would be push enough for me to build a new rig, lol.

I think that after the unknown expansion there will be more, because the fans will not allow the stop of the series since they need to cover the western Europe, Africa, italy, etc.

I think that 777 studios are doing a great job to get the 1946 identity into a new generation game engine. Just missing the dynamic campaign.

This Christmas I will certainly buy BOS, BOM and Cliffs of Dover. I will continue to play 1946 too

Will buy a new laptop when the new kaby lake model will be released... Also the new Flight Simulator coming this winter.
I will be busy playing flight sim lol.
