DirectX 10 here.
And i wished all my games ran as smoothly as this one.
Only crash i ever had was on a bug with Mirabela wich was promptly adressed on the patches.
Sorry i can't give any other assistance besides letting you know the directx issue shouldn't be relevant.
You should post your specs. Are you on Vista? Wich version? Wich graphic card? How much RAM. If you're having problems with other games, it's usually graphic card related.
If you want to give it a try, my definitions are 1440x900, anisotropic filtering 2x, no antialiasing, default refresh rate. Leave the rest of the options as you prefer them. If it doesn't work, then try setting them to a minimum.
Also, try emailing this problem to your graphic card manufacturer, they might have a better costumer assistance and be aware of any incompatibilities with those settings. Or google for similar issues with that card.

Thanks for your reply, I'm really starting to think it's my graphics card, I just hate the idea of going out and buying a new one only to find out I was wrong... I'm running vista Home premium 6.0 with SP1, 1.5 gig of RAM, and my video card is a: ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 series. It's the card that came with the box, but the computer is about 2 or 3 years old now. I have run some pretty graphic intesive games on here, like "The Witcher" but now I'm also having an issue with getting Fallout 3 to run as well. Pretty much the same deal as with Kings Bounty too. It seem's to load just fine, but when it comes to running the actual game, it crashes. So what do you think? Video card?

The Fallout series allways had tons of bugs, i remember reading about the latest installment not breaking with that tradition. But i also recall there being some decent patches available to fix most issues. Try that if you haven't already.

According to your specs (and your pc age) your problem could be indeed directx related. Carefully check your graphic card drivers on the ATI site to see if they support the latest version of directx. You can take my word for it, that Radeon wasn't built to support anything above 9.0.
Either get an update to your drivers or downgrade your directx.

Also, i would recommend, requesting help on a hardware forum (techimo.com is pretty good). I'm not a big fan of integrated chipsets, but i'm not an expert on the subject aswell. So if you're considering getting an agp/pci-e card with a decent amount of dedicated memory (wich would be my advice), post your specs and ask around a good forum for suggestions. Overheating and motherboard incompatibilities should be your big concern.
If it comes to buying a new one, the cheapest model on the market today will probably be many times better than the one you have. The way things are, consider yourself lucky your Radeon lasted 3 years.

I added another gig of RAM to my system so I went from 1.5 gig to 3 gig. (one board that was in there was 512meg, had to take that out) and I also threw in a GeForce 9500 GT video card which has it's own 1 gig of RAM for good measure... Now both Kings Bounty and Fallout 3 run like a champ!

Thanks again for your help...
