If the Spit is slow, no matter how hard he breaks, he won't have enough speed to avoid your fire. You need to fire from far enough, and learn to fire when the Spit is "behind your panel", ie shoot him without seeing him. With 4 x 20mm, when you hit, the Spit suffers a lot !
That said, it can be quite hard to hit a good pilot.
