Not precisely a screenshot..
A long time ago I cut out this illustration from a old 1940 copy of LIFE Magazine.I always liked it because it was so different from other aviation art paintings I'd seen around back then esp. on model box tops. I thought the illustrator had done his homework on the aircraft as well. Now thanks to CloD we can all get closer or even better than this , but because the artist did it "by hand' it still stands up pretty well.Larry's pice up above sort of remended me of it... ![]() |

Shows the attack of 2 Hurricane pilots against a large formation of He 111s with Bf 109 and Bf 110 escorts. Both pilots were extremely successful here.
However, 8 months later the wingman was killed. Six month afterwards the other one was shot down and captured. |

You talk about these two men. C/O Douglas Bader and Willie Mc Knight (right). ![]() I thougt Crowley Milling (Hurricane P3175 LE-M) was Bader`s Wingman. ![]() Larry69 |

I googled who in the world could be the other guy in the Hurricane beneath/under McKnight. I-net came up with the name Bader among others.
So it was a wild guess. I wonder if i would attack a large He111 group from 6 high. A good number of pilots suggest a (low) 12 head-on attack in this situation.. as can be seen at 2:48 in this movie clip Last edited by Kastel; 04-03-2014 at 07:25 PM. |
