Instead there are real screen shots (and videos) and not a lot of PR banter. Juts folks busy working hard on something just a little bit complicated. This isn't TD's first rodeo... it'll be fine.

Yep.. and usually not actually developed beyond the early stages. It's where the advertising campaign announces a product far too early into its development where almost nothing exists and the product wallows in development obscurity for many years before quietly fizzling out.

Duke Nukem Forever was in that state for something like 12 or 13 years...

Anyways... back on the subject of 4.12. Why would you think that 4.12 is going to be somehow cancelled?

Default Just curious: how much time spent enjoying the sim?

For the hard working members of team diadelos, how much time do you spend actually flying and enjoying vs making/tweaking etc. is more of your enjoy time on or off line, and do any of you build missions or campaigns/skin etc??
I myself used to make lots of off line campaigns and single missions until work schedule changed, now im lucky to get 4 hours a week online and 2-3 offline.

The world extends beyond your circle of influence. It's not going to be cancelled.

Many of us have been around long enough to know better.

Sims are a niche product... but IL-2 is far from dead. Go on HyperLobby any weekend and see the numbers of servers and COOPs running. Plus all of the folks who just play single player and don't always speak up a whole lot.

You may or may not know but IL-2s current development is done by Team Daidalos - a collection of volunteers with the knowledge and talents required to work on something as complex as this is. The only impediment is really time and interest...there isn't a yearly budget that will run out. Sometimes patches take a while but there is a ton of love being poured into this and there's enough content in the pipe to span into 4.13... surely.

Can a patch for an already developed product be considered vaporware?

You shouldn't worry about that .. and frankly even if it were cancelled today and there was no more support forthcoming for IL2 .. what we have would be monumental and something that will probably never be achieved again in the genre.

See above.. this is a fully developed sim already .. these patches are ongoing development (icing) but the finished product is realized (the cake is baked).

Even in it's heyday there were still a lot of folks who had no idea about IL2. Hyperlobby is not a good indicator though.. at one time Hyperlobby would be packed in the thousands.. Now it is rare that it goes over the 500 mark.. but like IF said... this sim is far from being dead or even near death.. In fact it is probably the only 12 year old flight sim still getting new users almost daily..
