It sounds, as you did all correctly. Congrats!

EDIT: Once you are into reading, I strongly suggest you to read the guides and manuals that have come with the patches since 4.09. Some new features were released with them and need some attention, if you want to master them.

I got a bit irritated by this part:

Quote:
someone here suggested playing around with the stock install for awhile before getting into the patches.
I think, by patches, you/he meant here the mods, because the patches (up to 4.11.1 as the most actual currently) are part of the stock game.
Just make sure, you make a copy of your running game, before you apply mods.

And... have fun, of course!

Ok. I'm patched up through 4.11.1 and everything looks and runs well.

I tested after each patch then moved on to the next. I also printed out each new "readme" as I went along.

Impressive amount of work done by the team. The self installing patches worked well and were very welcome. (Just remember to change the default directory if required). Some manual patches with lengthy step-by-step procedures are nightmares to get through without error.

The poster I mentioned did suggest playing with 4.07 for awhile before patching but I failed to see the advantage to that.

CLod has the advantage in ground scenery and graphic resolution for sure but 1946 looks very good and the scope, depth, and immersive potential seem superior.

I also, as stated, have had no issues installing and running under Windows 8. I did install in a separate Games directory outside of the Program directories.

Looking forward to having 1946 on my drive for a long time to come.

You are welcomed!

BTW, there is a so called mega patch, which brings you directly from 4.07 to 4.10.1, including the skin patch. It has been compiled by guys from the community and may be helpfull for you in the future:
http://www.mission4today.com/index.p...etails&id=4088
(you need to be registered on that page though, but I recommend it, as the page is awesome)

BTW: Once you are satisfied with how your game runs, you can burn it to DVDs or copy it to an external harddrive. Generally the game should run without registry entries (and maybe also without DVD), so you can place it whereever you want.
I did install my game only once - years ago - and since then I only copied/pasted it to three new computers now.

Thanks again for the additional links. My install patched through the most current still requires the dvd to be in the drive to start. Would be nice if that was not necessary though

Sitting inside while the snow gets cleared away here southwest of Boston. Seemed like a good time to continue with the HSFX 6.0 install.

Copied my whole freshly updated 1946 folder and renamed it with HSFX added to the name.

Ran the first HSFX 6.0 exe file from it's folder and pointed it to my 1946 HSFX directory. It did it's business, running parts 2 and 3 automatically.

Went into the directory root and ran the JSGME switcher program as instructed. Enabled the HSFX History mod. I noticed that there were 10 other mods listed. Which of those do I want to enable ? And what do they do ?

Ran the exe to start the main program. The splash screen showing the HSFX 6.0 designation appeared.

Started a new Finnish Campaign with those funky bi-planes. The overall scenery look has a different "feel" without any one thing jumping out initially. Looks good to me. Sound is greatly improved however. Nice !

On autopilot shortly after takeoff to allow the group to get sorted out into formation the leader in my pair ran into me tearing my wings off and trashing my fuselage. I said "Hmm. This is something new..." At that point the radio voice is ordering me back to base which I'm sort of trying to do but straight down and really fast.

Seemed like a good time to post this update before going back in to explore some more of HSFX. Should be fun !

Nothing but good things seem to have resulted from the install of HsFx 6, so I figured that I'd go ahead an install the Auto-Updater. That was quick and simple - again just be aware of the correct directory where your 1946 / HsFx mods live.

Now in the process of running the updater which is in the process of downloading 714 mb of stuff. Installation is supposed to be automatic except that at the end you will have to re-activate at least the HsFx history mods through the jsgme.exe utility

The professionalism of the crew that puts all this together for the community continues to impress me at every stage

Edit: jsgme.exe ran automatically after the updates bringing my version up to HsFx 6.0.17 had been installed . I activated the HsFx History mod and one other, Perfect Map Textures. There were a total of 14 possible mods listed which could be activated. I would like to find out what each one does before just randomly activating them all I think. Missions seem to still load and run fine at this time.
