I would'nt bet on a community project.
Who here really has the knowledge to code a proper sim engine ? And more importantly, who here is OK to code a new engine without getting paid ? You seem to not realize how huge and time-consuming this task is. I'm not even talking about netcode  and dynamic flight models  I'd like to see how the angry ppl here would handle this project  so we can compare
