Like I said I follow dms and steam forums and never seen such error mentioned before, maybe there is a problem with the retail version of the game you bought, could be the installer of the game doesnt write proper registry entries etc and thus patches do not see the game. You would have to try and contact publisher of the retail game you have sending them your recepit and asking for help or refund, or possibly going to that shop, thats about all I can say. As for steam, try this(however for some retail goty versions this may not work but only some) run steam, login to your account then click steam>library> hit the games tab >SELECT> Activate A Product on Steam. Now, you have to put in your gamespy cd key(the key that you would use for online account to play when you click multiplayer>internet in the game).
Give this a try, however if your retail version is some weird unique version it may not work.

Contact 1C and that e-shop that you bought it from and when you contact 1C make sure you specify where you got the game from and what you should do, there have been similar problems with greengaming online store.

rar version? o.O
inst there some rar version of this patch that we can extract -.- i mean i had the same problem with the original men of war and i had to download victory day edition fully patched already so i can play online...... so i snt there assault squad already patched just to enter the cd key? (multiplayer only ofc ) ^^ (sry for my english btw, hope u understand what i mean).
