You are totally right. Just directly talk about memory and that it is the bottleneck at first was a little misleading, because not knowing all specs. But it is okay as you told him now. There was nothing wrong. So, everything is clear now.
One last thing: I do not know prices, but I can imagine, that you get an i7 or i5 for nearly the same money. Just a mainboard and new memory should be affordable...
