Performance was very closely matched and victory depended a lot on tactics, individual skill and pure luck/situational factors in each mission. If the sim is properly tweaked, i expect that engine conditions and temperatures at the start of an engagement will carry as much, if not more, weight for the overall outcome of it as the initial energy states of combatants. This for me is the most important and ideal thing to come out of the game - for too long ( ie. in throughout IL2 and CoD ), we've had "engine management" without the ultimate reason FOR the management.

I am not sure what your getting at here, if you don't manage your engine well you damage it...!
