Watched it opening night, it was a disappointment, sadly.

I think too, that any sufficiently advanced civilisation would send to Earth many different crafts of all shapes and forms, after all, we can send up everything from Spitfires to F35's, why do we pick at an Alien movie that shows something different from the original concept?
The spacecraft ok but, what was the reason he drank that thing? Self sacrifice, mistake, part of a plan?

And since we know much latter that they had masses of that thing and what they intended to use it for...

?????

Saw it on the opening night too...and whilst I would recommend it to others as a good film, I was a little dissappointed, and to be honest would have preferred there to be no link to the Alien series at all.

I understood what the 'creators' were trying to do, but just didn't care for any of the human characters, whether they lived or died...and what the captain of the ship did at the end, based on what she said (I mean, really???) and other completely un-rational decisions.

Defo worth a watch though.

.. so they created life on earth ... only to destroy it later with weird bio-weapons .. oh Boy! these guys ARE human!

BTW, I'm looking for the name of horror movie produced justa few years back. Story line - Man sacrifices some kids to send a house to hell but one escapes. Later the boy is killed in the house, spell is enacted, house and cast (as you'd know it) descends into .. naughty place .. where keeping a light on is the only protection from being eaten alive by wall-crawling demons. Loved it so much i want to buy the Bluray but ...

Help?

Watched this yesterday and really found the entire thing mind-boggling.

This movie opens up so many more questions, it does exactly what a Prequel should do. I am already awaiting the sequels in hope of having more questions answered.

Indeed, not a true horror movie like the original Alien, but more a pure science fiction movie, with really fascinating, great questions being brought to our very existance. Are we created by another species? Why? Who created them? Why did they want to destroy us?

This movie has really started some heated debates and discussions and I think this is exactly what Ridley Scott wanted. I don't care much about the characters, most were cannon fodder anyways. Fassbender really stood out as a great actor as the android David and Noomi played a very convincing role. The med-pod scene was just fantastic.

Either way, this is a big one and I hope they'll prove it by giving more answers AND questions in the sequels!

Yep, that's probably one of the biggest questions of the film, but I can imagine several answers, one being ... we are just too destructive like has been covered in The Day The Earth Stood Still (original version please ) and many other films of the genre, remember that our Human spacecraft in Prometheus were pretty advanced and really starting to go places and we can imagine our technology growing and growing in this films universe, perhaps the creators thought we were getting too big for our boots or were like an experimental virus out of control and had to be exterminated before the warmongering Humans populated more parts of the Universe? They could always go on to create a more peaceful species later ... I dunno.

Could be the Creator at the start was a renegade (terrorist?) Creator who deliberately set out to create a greedy warmongering human species against the wishes of its brothers?

In Sci Fi we can imagine any scenario, that's why its Science Fiction and not Science Fact.

Cant help you on that one, sorry but it does sound interesting.

Thinking back to Prometheus again, someone mentioned the med scene, that was pretty intense I agree ... also, nobody does a Sci Fi spaceship landing scene the way Ridley does ... just awesome

Unfortunately in Sci Fi any sort of "prequel" is asking for trouble. The idea of cashing in on a pre-existing fan base may seem tempting but you can never meet the expectations of the existing fans.

A good example of this is the series Caprica which, if it had been stand alone, had some really interesting concepts to explore. Unfortunately it was tied in as a prequel to BSG and was totally the wrong sort of series for BSG big action space opera fans, and hence crashed and burned in its first season.
