Well, i'm not sure how it works out in a technical sense but i can tell you it's not new.

I've had this since for ever on my system, it just happened to surface for more systems with this patch.

I initially thought it was my low RAM (i got only 3GB of RAM and an Ati 4890 1GB graphics card) and it couldn't load all the textures in aircraft with a lot of details: it mostly happened to me on twin engined aircraft, bombardier stations and bombsights, plus the text and marking on the outside/wings of some planes, like the 109.

Well, the good thing is that now that it's a well known issue i can expect some kind of improvement

I can also confirm this, had to exit/rejoin to get the flags to show on ATAG.

Uninstalled.
Please read the patch notes again. The blurry textures thing is a known bug to them, not an intentional change.

Most people have had the issue resolved and many that didn't, eventually found out that it was fixable once they followed the usual patching procedure for optional patches like this one.

The official/final patches are automatically handled by Steam, but when installing an alpha or beta there's some more legwork involved to make it work properly. Here's what i do:
1) Verify file integrity through Steam: This makes sure i have the correct files for the latest official version, ie the one before the optional patch.
2) Defragment game files through Steam.
3) Go inside my documents\1c softclub\Il2 CoD\cache folder and delete all files within it and the shaders subfolder.
4) Extract the optional patch into the sim's main directory (if prompted to overwrite existing files, choose "yes").
5) Run the sim and wait for it to rebuild the cache i deleted with the correct files for the new version.
6) Run a quick mission and fly around for a couple of minutes to "force" it to load anything it might need to load.
7) Exit the sim.

From that point on, it's safe to launch the sim again, test and fly. I've been following this routine through all the Beta patches and each one has been an improvement for me.

Control animations still animate at a different, much lower frame-rate than the game's actual framerate. Not really a bug, but every other flight simulator including the previous IL-2 game got this right. Should've been on the to-do list if you gonna be rewriting the rendering pipeline and all.

Overall I am rather satisfied....

I'm not getting the amazing fps boost the dev team spoke of but it is certainly a lot more stable. I very rarely dip below 20fps anymore, which was a constant problem..... though it has to be said that was noticed more often than not whilst flying through or near clouds and, as the clouds are off, that may not show any actual improvement due to optimization.

I can use shadows now, which is a massive improvement, as well as my native resolution (1600x900) which, obviously, improves graphical display.
(Switching them off doesn't give as much of an fps boost as one would suspect so.... I'm happy to have them, if slightly underwhelmed by the supposed amazing "boost" that was lauded constantly leading up to the patch). - of course I have also noticed that a lot of ground shadows/ cloud shadowing is missing so I do suspect that this is not so much a case of optimization as omission.

The only real bugs I have come up against is the much reported red rectangle at the beginning (Not really something which bothers me) and the also reported dim sites in the 109..... turning up the illumination seems to make very little difference.

Overall: I am very happy as I can turn on more eye candy and the game is certainly more stable.

I am a tiny bit concerned that all these months of "optimization" seems to have involved turning off the troublesome features and sweeping them under the carpet.

REALLY GLAD that I am getting better performance and better visuals.

REALLY DISAPPOINTED that this "patch" isn't really much of a patch at all..... bit like replacing Crysis 2 with Crysis..... still a great game but of course it runs better when you turn off all the things that were supposed to make it great.

I am giving this patch a 7/10. That said, of course I am majorly happy with it.... just not for the reasons I should have been.

EDIT Scrap what I wrote above. After further flying I am giving this patch -1 out of 10. This really is a joke and I would like to see some evidence that any work has actually been done on this game??? I am made all the more suspicious by the relatively small size of the patch... this is not the "Huge" patch we were promised and, from what I can see, all the dev team have actually done is take stuff out thus leading to a small improvement in performance.... at first... and then the performance degrades and along come the CTDs. I honestly don't actually believe anything has been done to fix this game and it has all been smoke and mirrors. I hope I am wrong but all evidence seems to point to me being totally right. To say I am disgusted is an understatement! To think..... I actually loved this game warts and all... now? I'm not even sure I can be bothered anymore.

Default mostly improved, one major problem

Hi all, generally the graphics has improved for me with more realistic integration of the target dots with the landscape.
Not a great deal of fps change on my ati 6970.

The big down side for me is that I still get major slowdown in framerates when multiple aircraft are nearby.

I was hoping this and the CTDs would be fixed.

Please vote on http://www.il2bugtracker.com/issues/253 if you have the same. I'm surprised there wasn't already a "issue" raised pre-patch.

I had that happen even before the beta, it´s just a lot more frequent now.

Ok,some observations re the new patch of last night that might or might not have been picked up,if they have,great......here goes.

1.Mission Editor in game menus are now screwed, text all mixed up,rendering it pretty impossible to choose from Type/Group Properties/Waypoints etc.

2.Whilst using Mission Editor aircraft markings cannot be taken off easily if box unchecked, the markings stay on the aircraft in the 3d viewer for a period of time.so if using custom skins the original markings still appear on the aircraft if your not careful.

3.I like the new Hurricane sounds that variate using different RPM,very good.

4.Can't believe this is giving us a 50% rise in the average fps, don't buy that, sorry devs, especially that since this new patch there is a lot of content not enabled now.

5.Game freezes more frequently than before, can't escape, having to use task manager to escape.

Hope is a much used word on here at the moment, but maybe a break through will be made very soon, who knows

OK I'll bite.

I've been testing the new patch on and offline since yesterday, and I must say the first impressions were not good.

First thing I did was to delete the cache contents, apply the patch, and start the game. First thing I did was to fly a quick mission. Dogfight even - low level. Seemed to run fine. Noticed all control column 3D animated hoses, tubes and wires are "see-through" rendering the ground textures in background. Try looking at 109 throttle tube, spit/hurri stick wires, 109 canopy support wire etc... Also any kind of effects caused FPS slowdowns. Shooting bombers with 8x .303's caused stutters and general slowdowns. Taking off and looking down in the cockpit caused stutters. Looking through the dust from outside behind the plane when taking off caused HUGE fps drops.

Sometimes bullet ejected casings appear like black debris? When planes crash into water there is only a faint splash sound, does not sound like a plane impacting water.

Online I had one huge PC freeze (could not press restart button, had to unplug it) and this happened when I was ctrl+F2 cycling through ground units in a MP mission. No crash dump file unfortunately.

Although I did not have any CTD during playing, my two friends had a few (2-4 crashes during about 2 hours) when playing on my server online.

One of my friends switched on his gunsight (hurricane) and the entire plane/cockpit disappeared? He had to rejoin the server to fix it.

So after playing for about 4 hours yesterday evening, I had 1 computer lockup, my two friends had a total of 6-8 crashes, I had numerous launcher.exe crashes in the menu (trying to select a server in client lobby).

I just called quits early and said to myself, this patch is probably broken.

Today, I fired up a few quick missions again and altered a few settings in graphics (turned AA from 8x to 2x, set textures from High to Original) and jumped in again. Wow, that felt totally different. I was seeing an overall fluid gameplay with no stutters or micro-freezes flying 6 hurris against 9 heinkels. I could shoot 1 bomber to shreds while wingmen were hitting others and NO slowdowns whatsoever. That was very different from the results I was getting yesterday, when there were frequent slowdowns when shooting bombers. As a result of the increased framerate, the tracers now look 100 times better and realistic. They no longer seem like they warp forwards, but rather flow rapidly towards the targets!

I noticed a new bug though (I think). Fuel leaks are not rendered anymore at high speeds. When you slow down, you can see the droplets, but you can't see the streaks of fuel/oil any more when you are leaking.

I also noticed you have seemed to fix the sound when bailing out. You can hear the plane veer off into the distance now, instead of a constant engine loudness until the plane crashes.

Will test more, results seem better now!
