Definately no cloud shadow though.
Maybe you have Vsync enabled and triple buffering turned off? If so, i think that with a 60Hz monitor you are limited to 60FPS or non-decimal increments thereof (60, 30, 15), ie: if you are in a situation where your PC can only push 45 FPS instead of 60, with these settings you will get 30FPS.

If you want to really see what the system can do you can simply disable Vsync for a while. However, the fact that you get solid FPS with Vsync on is also very encouraging, because it's usually the fluctuations in FPS that cause stutters. For me, as long as it stays at 30 or more and it's steady, i'm perfectly happy.

EDIT: I just saw your question was answered and it was Vsync related

After : 24/44/1 (not fluid at all)

But maybe the Death Track isn't good because it has clouds and grass ... ???
I never used this track for testing. Just like in the previous IL2 series, tracks made on older versions of the sim tend to have erratic behaviour when viewed on a newer version.

What i do is fly a couple of quick missions and compare the average FPS between different versions. It's not 100% accurate this way because it depends on how i fly (low, high, near terrain or not, etc), but i still think it's better than using a track made on a previous version.

Plus, if you do the same things each time, it doesn't skew the results much.

What i usually do is select the ground attack quick mission where blue attacks manston. I put myself in a flight of four 110s with bombs, set the enemy flight that starts on the ground to defiants and set every other flight to zero aircraft. Then i go and bomb the trucks/train at the edge of the airfield and strafe the defiants as they are taxing for take-off.

This let me see all that i need to know in terms of FPS in a practical scenario:
- Does it stutter when i get close to ground/zoom into the gunsight?
- Does it stutter when buildings and trees load or explosions happen?
- Is the FPS stable when transitioning between flight over water to flight over land and different altitudes?
etc etc.

It's a low level mission so it has some graphics load, the attack profile i need to fly is very specific (i just pop-up a couple of miles outside manston and then dive bomb at 40 degree angle or so with a delay fuse on the bombs) and the opposition is on the ground, so it's easy to repeat a very similar flight each time and test for FPS differences between patches because i don't have to evade enemy AI. I just fly the same attack each time and note the differences in FPS.

You could even record a track for each of the two sorties if you wanted and then it would be easier to compare, because you would be able to watch each track on the version it was made on and be able to both have reliable track playback and also be free to monitor your FPS instead of also flying at the same time.

Well back to ROF again. This looks like we are moving nowhere.
Have you tried to clear you cache folder?
Also, what version was the server running? It never works well for any game when you join a server that runs a different version than your local installation.

Thanks for your answer. Yep i tried to clear the cache, not that it was needed, it automatically updated the files inside but anyways ... i did. I ran the ATAG beta server, i hope it was meant for this beta test. I gave it another try and it went much better after i disabled anti-aliasing. I was able to get smooth FPS high in the air but low near urban areas it was not so impressive. So ok i can live without anti-aliasing.

So I just successfully flew my 1st all human Ju88 sortie in formation without a crash. 4 of us flew from Tramcourt to England (1.5 hour sortie) and not a single one of us crashed. Before as we were forming up / taking off we'd crash one by one within 10 minutes flying together. A big improvement there.

Even just with that aspect, that opens up a whole bunch of possibilities for the guys wanting to fly proper bomber sorties. More to test, but I've yet to have a crash.. A good sign and a step in the right direction.
