A great way to make an ugly plane out of a beautiful one, as has already been shown here in some cases, is to stick radar in the nose, or to make it two seater. I could post many two-seaters here (Sea Fury, Spitfire and Hunter to name but a few) that are still quite pretty, but no where near as pretty as their single seater originals.

Its and XP-47H


Which had a Chrysler XI-2220-11 water-cooled inline 16-cylinder inverted vee engine

The follow up being the XP-72 aka Super Thunderbolt

Great read on that P47 website. It's my favorite airplane so that was pretty fun to see all the crazy late war variants.
