There's a menu if you right click the map, then in the menu, highlight Tools and click. It gives you some stuff you can mark up your in-game map with.
Not easy to use in a single-engined fighter with minimal trim controls, I like the idea of whipping out a protractor and sticking it on the screen, and using the old standard issue Mk.I Eyeballs and guesstimating.
