Probably you're right. I remember lively discussions on the exact sequence of firing a 12 pounder, none of the girlfriends was really interested in...

... but to take an existing film, which - wether I personally like it or not - is a piece of art created by its director, and to eliminate all these scenes sounds rather cruel to me. I seem to remember having heard something similiar on removing scenes with somebody smoking from films (youth protection or so). Imagine what would be left of Casablanca...
