I think they don't work. But attack and suppressive fire do.

I wish they would work, they sound very useful as they would cut down on micro a bit. My dream feature for future men of war games are preset squad formations that you can toggle( wedge, line, column would suffice) and also a walk cautiously key, where your men would switch to a slow walk with weapons at the ready. Maybe give them a slight awareness bonus or reaction time bonus.
