Make sure you got enough space in you're inventory to pick it up, otherwise it should just be to right click it. Worked fine for me

Yeah, good advice. If the map won't extend in order to reach the "mobile HQ" you have to visit the only village with the "civilians" , once you get there you'll get attacked.
