It was explained in this post that setting would tell the game to use all 4 cores of a quad CPU as well as the setting of 0 zero or commented out would.

Its for Quad Core users. You can set the AffintyMask to allow the game and OS to use multi cores. I have tried running it on just one of the 4 cores, or default off with the ; in to turn it off. I get the best FPS and NO SCREEN FREEZE when I use all 4 cores. I found that VISTA 64 runs the multi cores set up the best vs my old XP Pro. Here is a post I read before I ever tested this. Quote:

Great patch! The only bugs are when I look around in my cockpit to the left or right the sound stutters or something. The sound of the engine is lower when looking at left or right but it is not smootly reverting to the higher volume while looking dead ahead. May be my soundcard. I also get and cmaudio.sys blue screen when having extension on in the audio properties. I know it could be my soundcard.
I have also noticed a big fps drop if you use water=4. I have a new 8600GT 512MB DDR3 card and thought the patch was optimized for that card? I have P4 3.0 GHZ, 2 MB RAM. I have water=0 now and I got about 10 more fps with water=0. I can live with that untill I buy a new computer. I have tried water=2 but I get best fps with 0. How big difference is there between water=0 and up? How demaning is it? Is it demanding for the cpu or videocard? I thought my new card could handle that water on setting 4 without problems? BTW: No game renders water as good as IL2! |

I have an 8800gts and tried your settings.
Frames on the Slovakia map went from 44 to 59! Do you know what "VideoSetupId=17" is for? Mine was set at "2" and changing that appears to have made a big difference. Thanx bigchump |

It's titled 'Custom' in IL2Setup.exe ...

The only problem I have with this particular setting is that it adds a very slight lag to visual rendering as the video card will cache frames in advance of displaying them when the monitor requests a new one.... vertical synchronization is achieved by caching frames and displaying them at the exact framerate of your monitor's refresh rate, when it requests them.
The lag is extremely slight, but every extra millisecond makes a difference, in my opinion. I'd rather have the theoretical extra couple milliseconds of reaction time that land me the extra kill in a thousand. In addition, using triple-buffering utilizes more memory in your card for caching that would otherwise be used for rendering, further slowing rendering times and lowering overall framerate. The negative side effect of turning off vsynch is the potential for minor tearing of frame images under extremely high-speed manuevers if your framerate is extremely high. For more detailed information on vsynch and triple-buffering, I suggest TweakGuides as a resource for optimizing your video settings. |

4.09 Beta running great for me now. Gonna miss further patches, but I am more than extremely grateful for what all you 1c folks have done over the life of the sim. Can't wait for your next flight sim endevour!!
P.S. The only thing I'd like to see added to this final "Swan Song" patch is "Weathered/Faded" insignia. ie German Crosses, Roundels, Russian Stars etc. Weathered "default" insignias would be the perfect "last" compliment to all your skins, especially the newest paint jobs! The "un-weathered" default insignia kind of take something away from ther looks of those skins. I know time is main factor because your attention is being concentrated on BoB, but I also know that with my Paint Shop Pro, I can call up a German Cross, highlight it with the Magic Wand, Choose "Colors" from the tool bar, than adjust brightness/contrast, lower the contrast by 15 or so and bingo, nice weathered/faded looking cross. It's a pretty quick process. Of course thats doing it with the cross's I have for skinning. I don't believe I can do it with FB's default crosses becuase I can't access them, although I wish I could. Maybe you have a trusted skinner around there that would volunteer to do it! Anyway, thanks again for what you've done. Keep up the good work. I'll always support your products. S!
