1) Begin approach at ~ 500 ft altitude with landing gear up. Speed at optimal climb rate (e.g. ~150 mph). 2) Next, set j hook, go to canopy view, apply full flaps and aim nose at black wheel skid marks on the runway (your touchdown point). 3) Next, drop the gear when you are at 300 ft alt., this will cause nose to drop some so be prepared for that. 4) Adjust throttle as needed to keep you nose pointed at your touchdown point. You want to stall the plane over the runway at the black wheel marks on the runway ~90-80 mph. 5) Apply wheel braking when you touch down. Key is watching your alt and speed gauges all the time. Don't begin your approach too high\low\fast\slow. Edit: just remembered, most of the seaplane gauges are in knots, so 150 mph is about 125 knots. Also, it is a good idea to do the racetrack around the carrier prior to step one. Make your final race track turn as the carrier passes the cockpit windows edge over your left shoulder. When you are lined up with the carrier, be at 125 knots and 500 ft. It's a glide in. Last edited by MadBlaster; 08-23-2011 at 03:11 PM. |

Pacific Fighters came with a carrier landing mission and instructions. Practice - crash - refly. Took me 4 tries or maybe I forget a few.
Big important is the carrier was moving so don't set to land where it is when you start. But on DF server the carrier stays in place. ps: if the hook doesn't catch the wire, power to full and go around. Keep prop rpm at 100% until the hook catches. My personal landing control mantra is nose pitch to control speed and throttle to control height. Last edited by MaxGunz; 08-23-2011 at 06:08 AM. |

This is no longer always the case in the mod game. MDS allows the ships to move and the beacons allow navigation. So some mapmakers are employing moving convoys, including moving landing carriers.
