This different opinions of people with similar experience is very surprising. I for one can tell that I've seen them in action in different settings/locations, and they pretty much all look like the ones below. Some are more smoky because of the size/tracer compound, but the streak is pretty spot on. For the people that never saw them in real life, there are countless videos on the internet that show how spot on the tracers are. Bear in mind that they've been developed to function like the real thing, by actually leaving a streak behind, not just as a fixed texture (hence the accurate rendition at slower shutter speeds). Can I ask you what you reckon they should look more like?

Anyway, among the many videos in different calibres, this one is quite spot on: the only minor squiggles you see with the tracers are due to the movement of the operator's hand (who's fairly steady actually).
