This is probably a bug or mistake made. I hope they do an effect similar to the one when you crash in the ocean. (The direction and speed of plane is taken into consideration, splashing the water in the travel direction of the aircraft). That would make the crashes look even more spectacular and realistic. Fireball and flame won't exactly travel towards the sky initially if there's a shallow impact angle :p

Sorry for posting the following:

It's a spectacular display and not hollywood at all. I'm genuinely sorry for the pilots of those accidents.

But it would look awesome in the following scenario...

Imagine you overtaking an enemy down low over the treetops, firing that final, decisive burst into his engine cowl, causing it to catch fire. You continue to overtake him and peer out your side window as his plane leans into the ground causing this huge fireball through the woods/terrain..

@Strike: I completely agree with that this would be most realistic and spectacular. I hope it could be implemented without a huge resource drain.

No explosion and smoke when crashing on ground!!!
No really fps gain, still no go flying at 200-300 ft above London(low fps and stutters) and above fields if trees or grass is enabled (shadows always on),without trees, grass, building on very low is pretty smooth!!
Waiting for more patches in the future(i`m busy x work anyway so not much time to fly)

Win 7 64
8gig ram
Phenom 965 x4 3.4 ghz
Gtx 570 1280 mb
