590 is a SLI card and has the same limitations. The ultimate solution today is aiming at 2 or 3 gtx580 with 3GB vram each in SLI. But in 6 months things will be much different as usual.

I also use a 560ti with 1 Gig although mine's an Asus. I also run with everything on maximum and get smooth frames. I have vsync on as I find that stops the props flickering and over the sea I am mostly getting 60fps overland 40 fps upwards and over London mid to high 30s or more.

I've got a evga gtx 560 ti SC and I have to turn things like shadows off and lower others to get decent frame rates, how are you doing it?
