What would be the best budget card for CoD

Remember:

Buying a card which will not run CoD properly is not going to be a good investment. You are better to wait, save a bit more money, and then buy something which is a better quality. If you buy a card which is not high enough quality, you will be disappointed.

Personally I would not recommend anything less than:

GTX-460, GTX-560ti 2 gig, ATI 6870, ATI 6950 2 gig.

Of these, in my opinion, the two best options are the GTX-560Ti 2 gig, or the ATI 6950 2 gig.

Both of these cards have 2048 mb of VRAAM, something which the game really hogs, and this will deliver extremely good performance for CoD players at higher resolutions.

The 6950 is in my opinion the slightly better choice, being a little cheaper, ($239 vs $279) and easier to overclock.

There is one other option:

If you have a motherboard which is SLI or Crossfire capable, then you could match up your existing video card with another of the same type. Remember however, that SLI and Crossfire are not yet enabled for the game, but are expected in the near future. Luthier has said Crossfire will be enabled within approx. a month, and SLI will arrive sometime after the next Nvidia driver set is released. So if you can wait...

BUT this is only worthwhile if your existing card is at least (a) DX-10 capable, and (b) sufficiently modern to meet the requirements of the game.

For example, if you already have an ATI 5770, a pair of ATI 5770's would run the game extremely well. And this upgrade would only cost you $139.

Absolutely. Wait for the patch which will enable crossfire, wait for the player reviews.

BUT, if the game is well optimized for Crossfire, you would get a big boost at a small cost by adding the second 5770.

If you want to upgrade right now, or don't trust 1C to give good Crossfire performance in CoD, (dual cards were a problem in IL-2 for a long time) then you are better to pick up a single card which has 2048 mb of VRAAM built in.

The latest patch 'enabled' Crossfire, but it is not working well at all, will need a lot more work.

My two choices were GTX-560Ti 2 gig, or the ATI 6950 2GB.

I only got the Ati purely out of availability. Runs it well , I haven't overclocked it yet. Will you get much of a boost?

Best of all worlds, value and horsepower...
I am getting the 6950 2gb next month... Tough to choose between them.

I have a new AMD Mobo so I decided to go the ATI route because it is a better fit
for the system I have. I would suggest get the 560ti if you have an intel set up,
and Ati if you have a AMD set up.

But def one of those 2 cards - The 560 is NOT 20% faster than the 6950, in fact the 6950
is slightly faster across all tested games than the 560. But there is really nothing much between the two.

Seems 2GB of VRAM is more or less a neccesity in this game as of current patch if you want to run on high settings without problems.

Someone mentioned running all maxed out and CloD took something like 1,7GB.

Remember to think carefully about what you are doing and decide if you want to take the risk of overclocking. In many instances users can get a lot more performance for minimal risk. But if you take it too far, and your card overheats, you could end up with an expensive desk ornament.

ATI cards don't seem to be running at full clock and as of yet there's been no explanation that I'm aware of. My 5770 runs something like Call of Pripyat at 850 core clock, and CloD never goes above 400.

Until/if this is fixed, I'd go with Nvidia.

Nobody has said anything about power supply yet. The fact that his pc currently has only onboard graphics means its probably a store bought PC with a weak PSU.

To the OP, if this is true then you will have to add the cost of a new PSU to the price of any of the graphics cards that have been mentioned here. The ATI 5670 is probably the best you can get without upgrading the PSU, but then that probably isn't a fast enough card for Cliffs.

I'm not planning to play CoD in high settings, maybe hoping for medium or low mediun
