it's not meant to be a 'magic' switch anyway, it just turns off some features deemed likely to cause epileptic fits, as far as improving fps it won't do much either because the real issues behind that are being extensively discussed elswhere on this forum.

Just a thought: Check the conf.ini in your steamapps folder as well.I had to enter the line manually there as my English version of the game did not install into user/documents
