Unfurnately I cant justify to buy card since I don't know which card is needed for SoW.

For instance:

In case of a release 1stQ 2011 I will just wait.

Incase of 2ndQ 2011, I could just buy a 470 now, enjoy it for 6months, and get a new one when the game is out.

But I dont know the release date!

Sure I could just buy the 470, but then oleg surprises us with a February release and I have to buy a new card again.

Even if you sell an almost unused card you'll lose at least 30% which is in the 3digit range.

Or I could buy a 580 today, which offers performance I dont need(now) for a price I dont have to pay, because I don't need it before July - again 3digit loss.

So, you see several parts are affected, also their prices detoriate pretty fast. If you add it up, we're talking about a potential $300+ we lose just because we bought them too early. Even worse if they cant do the job...

We cant plan and therefore are screwed either way - it's just not cool.
I understand your point, but isn't the 260 good enough for a few more months? Maybe the Simhq interview out in a few weeks, will provide a better idea of the SOW release time frame.

just wait to buy em till the game comes out if your waiting for it
if you play other games and need upgrades, upgrade

But a lot of us have already waited a long time to upgrade, and it could be another year yet, so we can't just keep waiting (our systems are grinding to a halt). As swiss said, do we buy stop gap parts to tide us over, because by the time it's out there will be better hardware available, or is it close enough to release that we should get the best we can now?

The point is that these are not difficult questions for the developers to answer (ie, rough timeframe).

It's all very easy. If you need (or want) to upgrade now you upgrade, if you don't then you will get more technology for your dollar if you wait. It's been the rule of thumb since computers were invented.

But look back on the history of how 'rough timeframe’ released by Oleg and co have been treated by the community. A 'maybe' is treated like something set in stone. 'Should' is translated as definitely.

How can you give a timeline when optimising a section of code or removing a bug may require a whole section of the programme to be re-written using a different algorithm?

When Oleg and his Publisher (who ever that may be) are confident of a release date, they will probably tell us. Be Sure!

Fine, but many ppl here are focused on SoW and are also willing to throw a 4digit investment at it.
They justify the investment only with SoW. No storm of war, no expensive rig.
In my case that means I'd like to upgrade for a certain sum, however SoW would easily double this sum.
Yes, I do play a few other games, yes I could use a better card, but those games alone dont justify a $600 card(plus CPU etc)
Trigaar f.i. needs a new system(I guess), but he wants it to be tailored for SoW, just like many of us.

Till today, we don't have slightest clue of system requirements - I mean, they are already debugging, how much can still change?

Heck, even a timeframe from announcement to release would help.
Like; from the time the dedicated hp is running it will take 12(or whatever)weeks till it hits the shelves.
They don't even have guess here - this timeframe is absolute.

Optimization is one of the last things done, and one of the most important aspects of figuring out system specs. We all know that this game will be very demanding, so we could assume the developers are working overtime to get as many possible frames per sec possible. The last thing the developer needs is a sim that will not run properly on average systems. So either you have to optimize as much as possible and/or start dumbing down features until computers become more powerful.

Is Oleg building this game himself? In a shed in his backyard?

Read the previous posts. If you need to upgrade now, should you get some budget parts (like a budget graphics card) that'll you'll want to replace again by the time the game comes out?

Yes I understand your point, but they have a better idea than we do, and it's all about communication. They said many would be flying online by Oct 10 - they must have realised that wasn't going to be the case a fair while before then, so just let us know. It's not like it's taking time because they're being lazy, so why not just be upfront and keep us informed? The 'rough timeframe' is something they'd keep updating, it's not like they'd say 'about 4 months' and then say nothing again until after 6 months had passed.

Yes, but they have a better idea than us, so why not share it?

Well you have more money to spend on PCs than most of us.

I couldn't wait to build a system (old one had become such hassle with XP, and too slow to work), but I built it without a new graphics card. So I now have an i7 with a GT6600 graphics card - a bizzar mix. That means no current games until I upgrade the card. Thinking the game would be out sometime around 6 months, I've ordered a new GC, but honestly, if we were told it could be up to a year, I'd cancel that order and wait for the next generation of cards. But I'm just an example, there are others waiting to upgrade, and we're just after some information, we're not simply being impatient children.

I agree, and i have been saying it for some time that a little info from Oleg is all thats needed here to satisfy us, I dont think that is too much to ask, obviously others do, but it can lead to a ban from these forums as I have found out in the past.

Merry christmas to all no matter where you stand on this subject, I hope each and every one of you have a fantastic time.
