Alpha, you're the first person I've seen in Il-2 who's actually requested for a landing Unless you were taking the piss

Actually offline I usually do. If you request a landing it seems like the ATC warn off the AI once you are on finals. Certainly does no harm to do it.

Also online

As I usually fly only coop missions it helps to use the command string

I have got IL2 and patched it to the latest and installed the latest ultra pack.

I know IL2 is better, I just wanted something that looked very nice that I could have a quick dogfight in, that looks like something close to what SOW will look like. And I've had quite a bit of fun in it.

My only query really was, as it was based on IL2 and had more sim-like options for the PC version, was is the FM and DM sort of respectable.

Judging by the backlash here, obviously not.

(also, I'm not saying current patch of IL2 looks bad, it's amazing for a 9 year old piece of software, but try as you might and for all it's shallowness, WOP does look lovely and very cinematic for a quick furball).

It does use IL2's FM, not sure about the DM. I never understood why there's so much animosity against WoP on this forum. It's a good 'light' sim with gorgeous visuals and it's not like we're spoilt for choice when it comes to sims so I support all flight sims and enjoy what they have to offer.

Childish comments like "it's crap" don't help anyone.

LOL, we hate "light" sims, and the visuals are crap IMO. All yellow and brown, very arcadish, and the hdr effects are completely overdone and don't belong there in the first place. Nowadays HDR, blooming, softening and color filtering are seemigly the last resort for game developers who just don't manage to put together a game that has its own visual originality.

IL2FB and ROF have their own visual styles.
BS and A-10 are interesting in this respect: very accurate and hardcore on the simming side, while the visuals - though extremely detailed - simply lack the artistic originality that is present in IL2FB and ROF. Google maps just doesn't cut it mapwise.
But Birds of Prey? I could puke every time i see a screenshot.

S!

not Birds of Pre, Wings of Prey. You can turn HDR off if you so wish. You sound like a fanboy and I already state I rate il2 above it for most aspects, that doesn't preclude me however from getting enjoyment from WOP.

I will of course drop it like a stone when SOW is released but as I only picked it up for £15 I consider it a bargain.

I might do it for the thrill of hearing tower's reply, but if I'm flying green 3 (for example) I never listen when I'm told to circle around

But for online I can see the sense.
