S!
Nice shots again. The weathering is WIP I think? It looks a bit like a gaggle of kids had been slapping their muddy hands on the plane's exterior. If I compare it to those planes we have at work (yes prop planes too, not only jets) the most likely places with tear & wear are the prop edges, areas behind exhaust pipe getting smoldered, edges of hatches/access doors having chipped paint, dirtier paint and chipped paint where landing gear throws up dust, streaks of oil etc. from drain holes, leading edges having chipped paint etc. So IMO the weathering is a bit strange as it has no pattern in on the Spit, more like slapped on the plane. But this is for sure WIP |

Hi All,
The photos Major_Setback posted look like they came from my thread over at SimHQ: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.ph...ml#Post2682133 Be aware that I have worked on them in PhotoShop. The original colours are different. You can download the original pics for free now that Google have put all (?) the life archive on the net. They do take a bit of finding though (can't remember my search terms - sorry). The originals are also larger. I have re-sized them to fit my SimHQ thread. There is one more colour pic of a Spit from the same photo shoot. It is also in the SimHQ thread. Hope you enjoy the read! Edit: here are the original file names from when I downloaded these pics from the Life archive: 2c4034e8f6abbfa8_large.jpg 358f0c1185c0f8e0_large.jpg 4723f569a0a74b6f_large.jpg If anybody finds any more from this series please let me know. Sorry for stealing them. I hope you won't mind if I reproduce the third one from the series here.

It's not BoB era, but it's a beautiful shot! I''d say this is late 1940 (or late October 1940) to early 1941. The pilot appears to be wearing a 1941 pattern mae west. It may be the BoB 1932 pattern, but the colour looks off (unless he doped the whole thing yellow)
Also, the white-band on the spits fuselage didn't appear in the BoB I don't think But man these are some great shots. I can remember seeing them in a life magazine from the period |
