// Ethan Fry is actually just an ally. I normally wouldn't list him since I don't list other allies (Heretic, Phantom), except for the fact that - for a very short while - his character portrait is viewable on your mothership as a pilot. He's got no skill tree though and you can't assign a ship to him. I don't know why the game even allows you to view him (see attached screenshot).

You can assign ships to him, just that hes only capable of flying up to 3rd generation ships.
