I don't know. It just has too large a turning radius. Every time I try to pull it tighter, slowing down or using a little rudder, it stalls violently. In a straight line, it isn't any faster than the best fighters. Diving and trying to get lead in a target is damn hard. Congrats if you can do it consistetly. I keep trying this plane and the 51 in practise hoping to find some trick or something that would get my American fighters into the combat hunt. False hope so far. They just won't turn in sharp enough and that stalling is a bitch. Maybe the blackouts will help these two become more effective in anything other than strike, which hardly anybody is playing in sim.

I don't even try the Stang online, but I've taken the Jug up several times. It doesn't seem to have the speed it should - should be able to hit 300-400mph in level flight at low to mid altitude, more like 450mph up high. I don't recall seeing close to those numbers without standing on the WEP, or nosing over into a dive. And, the dives aren't all that impressive. Story was, if you wanted to climb a Jug up from 20K to 30K, the fastest way was to dive to 15K, then zoom up to 30K. Roll rate was reportedly very good in the Jug, but it only seems average in game - probably worse than the 109 and Spit (the non-clipped wing Spits could be out-rolled by a P-47). Turn fight, forget it. I don't think the Jug ought to be able to out-corner many of its opponents, but it ought to be more competitive than it is. Your best bet to get a kill is to head out from the fight a couple miles, turn around and come diving in on somebody who is distracted and flying a relatively straight path. Most of the time, your superior armor is what you'll be using as some asshole in a Spit or 109 sits in your six and chews your tail. Very disappointing to have the Jug there, but be so under-represented. Maybe they modeled an extra fuel tank there...and forgot it had a turbocharger...and a PW R-2800...and ailerons/elevators. At least the Stang is getting fixed. Don't know about the Jug. Only had one high altitude fight in a training mission. Took a Spit IX against a 262. Fight started a 30,000' and ended after about five minutes around 15,000' after I finally got the corner on him. I seemed to be just hanging on the blades up at 30,000' while the 262 could've engaged and disengaged at will if the computer wasn't flying it in big loops. The Jug ought to be able to show her stuff up at that height, but I wonder if the game will reflect that. |

Should be nicknamed Bullet sponge not Jug lol. And that Egon Meyer in the FW190 made me laugh, taking timeouts between bursts to wave to the other pilot.

it was clear to him that the P47 was in a bad way from the minute he got on its six and it didnt try to evade. Even then after a few bursts when he pulls up on his wing...he can clearly see the damage thats inflicted, yet he still goes around for another 2 passes. I know its war but you have to show some compasion to stop you becomnig a complete animal. And to shoot at a pretty defenceless aircraft must be great for that nazi morale. Was quite disgusted by it actually. ironic that meyer was shot down and killed by a P47! thats karma. Last edited by FOZ_1983; 12-19-2009 at 09:59 AM. |

That P-47 video you posted was the entire reson I bought BOP lol... I really wanted to fly the JUG after seeing this. I *almost* bought the DLC immediately, but I wanted to wait to see how the developers made her fly in this game. Sadly, it appears they didn't make the JUG perform like it should, so I'm not paying $9.99 more for it.
Good thing I like a few of the other planes though! I just wish I could be a proper JUG pilot. |

I can understand where you are coming from, but, Meyer may have been thinking, if i kill this pilot, he won't be able to shoot down anymore german planes. I imagine that replacing pilots is alot harder than replacing planes. Plus, it is war, Meyer may have lost a great deal of friends to the Americans. His heart could of been filled with revenge. We were not there, so it is almost impossible to speculate. |

I can though see your side of the arguement, which is fair..... Which is why if that was true, he could of show SOME compassion and just shot the P47 down, not flown along side him to let the poor guy know he was going to kill him. Thats just plain sick. No ifs or buts.... its twisted. |

Also he could have been each time he came alongside Johnson, giving him the chance to bail out (he didn't know he was trapped)
