CRT television? My old school 36", 250LB Mitsubishi monster would LIGHT YOU UP if you touched the screen
 You probably got zapped by the TV, and you in turn zapped your flight stick, which freaked out your console. Static has a high voltage, and can jump a good gap. I could also touch said TV while touching my unsuspecting brother on the shoulder and light him up too
