Well- the models in the game as of yet are for very different purposes...The 110 is intended to be a heavy fighter (which I like). the IL-2 would be for ground attack (obviously).

Comparing them would be like comparing the late the F-4 Phantom (which was a large and heavy fighter) with the A-10 Warthog (the greatest tank-killer of all time, though only partially proven- unlike the IL-2)

The roles may be different but its how the are utilised in the game, especially online. While the IL is a ground attacker, it can be used as a heavy fighter as many do. Part of the problem is in the fact that there are few "heavy fighters" in the game, making the 110 a bit out of place at times.

Whatever the roles they have, how people actually play online is another matter. Rarely will a 110 survive long in an online match, where people use 109's/Spits/IL's to devastating effect. If the 110 had the G model varient in the game it would make a huge difference in its effectiveness and usage.

I'm pretty good at surviving in a 110... but on the whole you're right. Though I can survive- it takes a lot of work and it's very hard to get kills unless the enemy has larger, slower, or dumber aircraft, or at the very least someone who stumbles into your sights a few times. I don't fly the 110 in dogfight matches, only strike (anti-bomber or escort) or Capture the Airfield (which it is somehow well-suited for). The guns on it are extremely powerful- not because of what they are, but because they are so close together, if one round hits, chances are they all will- in the same spot; they are extremely accurate. I've gotten a few pretty nasty kills with my rear gunner too- which in a 110 is rare.

In Strike they can be a good option if you have a good number of players in different types of aircraft. However most games tend to have one or two heavy bombers such as the He111, and the rest as escorts such as 109's or spits. In that type of game the 110 can be outdone easily.

Im not averse to the G model being added, Im all for more aircraft. My only concern is that there should be some Allied heavy fighters so that they have an even match up, and thereby a fair crack at game.

I agree. I played one game a few nights ago with 5 B17s. My Bf 110 and I had a great time... 0 deaths and 6 kills if I recall correctly. I was smoking pretty bad when the game ended though (an enemy spitfire I think).

I think the Bf 110 is one of those planes that is generally overlooked by most people. Everyone sees its flaws but few see it's charms, ie. the massive accurate firepower on an extremely stable aiming platform. Up-ing the armament possibilities or variants for the 110 would make it more popular I think. Just look how many 109's you see in games- a testament to the nifty unlocks and the large number of variants.

As for allied heavy fighters... the P-38 will be added i'm sure... as will the Mosquito hopefully... as for others who knows. Maybe another type of Bristol or a Beaufighter?

Im hoping for the Mozzy in the DLC pack. Mozzy v 110 would be a great match up for a team battle imo.

And a nice pair of bristols is always a welcome sight.

Unless you're a German U-Boat crewman...
