In which order are the babies placed in the inventory slots?

I plan to get some children with my demon wife, just for kicks.

But I fear they will start out as with my previous wifes, and take the upper left and the upper right slot first - basically, the precious weapon slots.

Is the placement random, or do the kids always get placed in that order?
