So what is it, Griffins or Royal Snakes?

Griffins more mobile but defensive (unl. ret.) and Snakes more of a offensive unit (no enemy ret.)?

What would you get with my current lineup of Shaman, Inquisitors, Arch Mages and Evil Beholders?
