My "mint condition" X45 set arrived today from the eBay seller. Very nice. Not a scuff or a scratch to be seen. Cords and connections seem rock solid. Movement of both throttle and stick feels consistent through their range and slop free. Only a tiny bit of freeplay around the stick base at rest.

Win 8 called it an X45 at plugin (also listed as an 8184). I installed the driver from the file "Saitek_X45_Flight_Controller_SD6_64". I also installed the programming software from the file "Smart_Technology_7_0_2_7_64bit". SST program pops up with a nice photo of the X45 set on the splash screen which is a good thing I guess.

Saitek ProFlight shows:
Software Version 7.0.2.7
Driver Version 6.0.4.1

Holy Batman ! There is a lot of stuff here. Mode 1, 2, and 3 for every button and switch. Then Pinkie Mode 1, 2, and 3 also. I'm going to rest now I think.

Obviously the current pre-made profiles for download are listed as for X52, X52 Pro, X65 etc. Which ones should I be trying for ?

Next step is to rewire my old super heavy duty Thrustmaster Rudder Pedals for use with a usb setup

I'm a bit unclear as to what exactly I need to buy for parts to go in the little box

Edit: I went ahead and ordered a basic usb / game port adaptor which seemed like the easiest way of getting a simple single axis device up and running
