My opinion...

I don't think it's a new number (absolutely no evidence of the last number is present). I think if they were going to refresh the codes' paint, they'd refresh it all at the same time they had the paint out.

I don't think it's the sun (the right side of the bar that is in the shade, still isn't as dark as the number).

But... If it can't be proven either way, I guess it all boils down to what you and the rest of the 5./JG27 boys think/want, as really, you guys are now the "new 5./JG27" members (and keeping in mind that your group will probably spend more flight hours than the old 5./JG27 members put in)
