dflion, that fix works for me, too. One other question, are you supposed to start the campaign with a specific rank? I started the first time at Oberfeldwebel, which is what caused my problems within the formation. Starting again as a Major seems to have fixed this, at least for two-ship formations. Maybe something mentioning starting rank more prominently in the ReadMe for dimwits like me who didn't read the short campaign description.
