Really? You're not going to play because zoom won't work? Sorry to hear that, man.
I haven't used zoom since I started using the aviator layout. Admittedly it would be handy for ID'ing foes from slightly further away in certain lighting conditions, but other than that I see it as no great loss. Especially now that you can see a plane all the way from several klicks away up until collision.
But I guess, like you say - each to their own...
