What are the spaces under units for?

Sorry for all the questions, I just got the game..

What are the slots under your units for?
That is when you double click on a army unit, in that screen that pops up. theres a bunch of empty slots there? What are they for and what do you put there?

Those slots list the conditions that currently affect the unit - you'll see them filling up by themselves in battle based on what has transpired on the battlefield.
