It's all very well to say "We were told about the control scheme months ago" But what about the hundreds of users who will try this demo, but aren't users of this forum? Like me. Those players aren't represented in a forum like this, mainly because it is populated by fans and dedicated players, who for most part it seems, won't be playing with a gamepad.
Had I been here, I would have told you, but I was not. and neither were any of the other new players discovering this game. The first experience I had of the game was the Demo, by which point it was too late. That's a big problem.
I was not aware of this game until literally a few hours ago. I downloaded the demo and found it pretty enjoyable except for the control scheme! I just can't get my head around it, It's a big problem for me! And I was pretty disappointed to find that it couldn't be changed.
As Anton said, it's pretty sad that someone will pass up on a game simply because of the controls. It's sad indeed. But true. And I'm afraid that person is me.
If it weren't for the fact that I'm forced to use this uncomfortable control scheme, IL-2 would have been a definite purchase for me, considering how much I enjoy the planes in BF1943 and the like.
Also, having seen it mentioned earlier in the thread, simply relying on the fanbase to buy flightsticks is NOT an acceptable solution.
I'm guessing that one of the big objectives of bringing Sturmovik to the console market is to capture some of the casual gamer demographic that normally wouldn't play this game on PC.
Well, mission failed. A casual gamer does not want to spend £40 on a game, then find that he has to go and spend another £80 on extra kit just so that he can enjoy the game properly!
